David Schafer had been dealing with BPH symptoms for decades…but things kept getting worse. “I don’t like taking medications,” he said. “And it just got to a point where it was really disrupting my life and, very uncomfortable, very inconvenient.”
He met with Dr. Michael Binner who performed a minimally invasive Aquablation procedure. This robotic treatment uses a cold-water jet and real-time imaging to remove excess tissue in the prostate. “I map out on the robot exactly where I want for the prostate to be removed or ablated. And what happens is, is I can remove the tissue that is obstructing and preserve the areas of the prostate that preserve sexual side effects…Incisionless surgery robotically assisted, and patients are under less anesthesia because it’s a quicker procedure as well.”
“There was zero discomfort. Zero pain. There was, you know, I didn’t even take an aspirin,” said Schafer. After a few days recovering, Schafer said the procedure has him feeling better now than he did 20 years ago. “The first void was like heaven. It was just it was something I hadn’t experienced in a long, long time to have that just freedom…it sounds, it sounds pretty silly, but to be able to be like a normal person was a big thing, you know.”
“I have really run with this procedure, and the reason why is because patients are very happy, and I will continue doing it,” said Dr. Binner.
